Answer ten questions and get a brief any agency can quote from. It is the document that makes two quotes comparable, and the thing most projects start without.
Your brief
Send this to any agency or freelancer. A brief this specific is what makes two quotes comparable.
Why quotes come back so different
Two agencies read the same enquiry and return ₹18,000 and ₹1,80,000. Usually neither is dishonest. They have each filled the gaps in your enquiry with their own assumptions: who writes the content, whether anybody researches keywords first, whether the store is configured or just installed, whether there is somebody to call in month four.
A brief closes those gaps. Once everyone is pricing the same work, the numbers converge and the differences left are real ones. The long version is in why two agencies quoted you very differently.
The questions that change a price most
- Who writes the words. Content is often a third of the cost and the most common reason a project stalls.
- Whether it takes payments. Tax, shipping and stock rules are the work; the design is the smaller half.
- Whether anything moves across. A rebuild on existing content is a different job from a new site.
- Your deadline. Not to pressure anybody, but because it decides what is possible.
- Your budget. Saying it is not weakness. It saves two meetings.
Ask for these five things back
The brief ends by asking for them, because they are where projects go wrong later: a fixed price and what would change it, what is included versus extra, who writes and supplies what, what happens after launch and at what monthly cost, and who owns the domain, hosting and code at the end. That last one matters more than people expect — here is why.
When you have the brief, the cost calculator tells you roughly what you should be hearing back, and these fifteen questions separate a good agency from a cheap one.
Do I have to use you after filling this in?
No. Take it to anyone. It is a better brief than most agencies get, whoever you send it to.
What if I do not know my budget?
Leave it blank and the brief asks them to tell you what the options cost instead. That is a reasonable thing to ask.
Is my brief saved anywhere?
No. It is built in your browser and disappears when you close the tab, so copy it somewhere before you leave.
How long should a brief be?
One page is plenty. What matters is that the expensive decisions are decided, not that it is long.
Want us to quote against it?
